Robust Truss Topology Design via Semidefinite Programming
We present and motivate a new model of the truss topology design problem, where the rigidity of the resulting truss with respect both to given loading scenarios and small “occasional” loads is optimized. It is shown that the resulting optimization problem is a semidefinite program. We derive and analyze several equivalent reformulations of the problem and present illustrative numerical examples.
متن کاملVenous pressure and ocular tension; data concerning the diurnal variation of ocular tension.
ATTENTION was first called to the diurnal changes of ocular tension by Maslenikow (1904). The aetiology of this physiological phenomenon is controversial. Kollner (1918) associated it with the arterial system, assuming that a sudden rise or fall in blood-pressure causes a corresponding change in ocular tension. But the diurnal variation of ocular tension cannot be related to blood-pressure, bec...
متن کاملTension–tension fatigue of hybrid composite rods
The tension–tension fatigue behavior was investigated for a hybrid composite rod comprised of a unidirectional carbon fiber core and a glass fiber shell. Fatigue tests were performed at three R-ratios and four maximum applied stress levels (MAS) while recording the secant modulus at each cycle, and acoustic emission (AE) sensors were employed to monitor the activation of fatigue mechanisms. Fat...
متن کاملNeedle thoracostomy for tension pneumothorax: the Israeli Defense Forces experience.
BACKGROUND Point of injury needle thoracostomy (NT) for tension pneumothorax is potentially lifesaving. Recent data raised concerns regarding the efficacy of conventional NT devices. Owing to these considerations, the Israeli Defense Forces Medical Corps (IDF-MC) recently introduced a longer, wider, more durable catheter for the performance of rapid chest decompression. The present series repre...
متن کاملIs coronary sinus blood oxygen tension behavior determined by myocardial oxygen tension variation during cardiac reperfusion?
The relationship between coronary sinus blood oxygen tension (CSPO2) and myocardial oxygen tension (MPO2) variations during cardiac ischemia and reperfusion was studied in anesthetized open-chest dogs. Oxygen tension was measured by a polarographic method. Ischemia resulted in a slightly decreased CSPO2 and a more pronounced reduction of MPO2. After reperfusion the CSPO2 rose rapidly and transi...
